A garbage disposal unit is one of the most common gadgets that you can see in an American kitchen. It is usually installed under the kitchen sink and is used to shred solid food that one dumps into the sink along with plates and dishes. As the garbage disposal unit shreds solid food into small pieces that are less than 2 mm in dimension, it easily passes through the sink’s plumbing along with the water flow.

You can install a garbage disposal unit yourself if you have basic idea of plumbing. Just apply the plumber’s putty around the flange piece of the disposal unit and fix the gasket within its upper and lower rings. Tighten the retaining ring and the screws in the lower ring of the flange to keep the unit in place. Next, place the disposal unit in the flange and gasket, and attach the discharge tube and drain lines to the unit.
